The Showdown; Muslim Fundamentalists versus European Extremists
I think no one in the contemporary history misused the freedom of the press and media and their role in molding opinions as the Europeans did. The denigratory cartoon about the Jews in the thirties, the glorification of subversive movements such as fascism and Nazism, the hail of terrorism in Iraq and calling it resistance although it is directed against civilians and civil facilities,their unflinching support to the dictator of Iraq to the last minute.
Finally they have added one new record to their long record of media manipulation; a cartoon about the prophet Muhammad.
In a time when every one is trying to curb Aljaeera or the mouthpiece of terrorist as some call it, and convince the local authorities in Qatar that there is a difference between freedom of media and propagating for terrorists. In a time where wise people try to send a clear message to the Islamic world that this is not a war against Islam, but rather a war a against enemies of Islam such as Sadam who murdered more than 3 million Muslims, and Osama who violated Islamic principles and murdered innocents, attacked civilians, and participated in making the generalization that every Muslim is a terrorist. In this sensitive time the European media decided to join this battle, using to the wrong strategy, not to convince ,persuade, and moderate the Muslims,but rather to smear ,defame and radicalize.
The European press has published cartoons which enraged the feelings of the Muslims. It started in Denamrk first. Instead of containing it, and trying to solve the problem, the French , the German, Italian, Belgian, Swiss, and many more all have joined the battle beside their Danish "brothers" newspaper. This time they have raised the flag of Freedom Of Speech, which is indoctrinated in every constitution.
Undoubteldy, it shows how much these people lack conflict resolution skills, or human skills, and how much they need to learn, about solving troubling issues.
In such away they have given Osama and the extremists a golden opportunity. With radicals in the Islamic world telling the public "We told you it is not Sadam or Osama who they hate. It is Islam ,its principles, and doctrines, it is a crusade against us and against our prophet".
Rulers of the Islamic world, who failed by all standards except political survival took advantage of this opportunity, to counter attack the reform and democracy coming after the fall of the dictator of Iraq. Trying to find legitimacy to their trembling thrones. They have allowed the public to vent up their anger, in demonstrating and burning Danish flags. It is noteworthy that in these totalitarian regimes there are laws against gatherings. This time they suspended this law, for reasons known to every one of us. They are telling the public we are defending our beloved prophet. Even in Syria the most brutal dictatorship in present time, it allowed its citizens to storm the Danish embassy. Saudi Arabia which did nothing to the Muslims of the world except exporting Wahabisim,extremism, fundamentalism and causing wars among Islamic nations such as the war between Iraq and Iran, and the civil war in Lebanon.
Was it all about the freedom of speech as the Europeans claim " the same excuse the king of Qatar used when was asked to ask Aljazeera to stop playing terrorists video tapes and beheadings"?
Mark Levine, a specialist in European Islam at the university of California, Irvine, in an interview with Toronto Star Feb. 3rd 2006 "because speech is free and permitted does not mean you should go around uttering. You can go around screaming nigger at the black people. It is legal I suppose , why does that mean you shouldn't do it though. It is about more than free speech. I think part of it is just to show who is the boss. Away of saying to Muslims look you want to live here this is what you have going to have to up with"
With Muslim extremists urging the public to boycott Danish ,European products and abducting Europeans, and European extremists threatening to burn the Quran "the holly book of Muslims", and staging more demonstrations. who will win this showdown. ? With the two parties of this dispute lacking the wisdom I expect it to last for some time, and add more ferment agitating elements to the political climate in the Islamic world.
